Hmong News-Mekong River

The Mekong river has much history and travels a great distance after it comes out of China. These pictures were taken on the Thailand side of the river in Chiang Khong looking east into Laos near the Golden Triangle. The sun is setting in one picture and the sun is rising in the other as we look east into the bright sun.

Nearly 30 years ago, not far from this location, hundreds of Hmong risked their lives to flee Laos. Thousands of Hmong did the same much further down the river as it swings to the East. From there the river heads South into Cambodia.

Its very hard to describe ones feelings as you look across this river and think of what the Hmong people went through for freedom. Once they reached Thailand, after having traveled by night for up to 30 days, they were put into refugee camps.
